For a lot of the population, losing weight can prove to be difficult. As a fashion model photographer, I’ve seen it a thousand times.

These young women go on crash diets to fit into the clothes for their next photo shoot. And, they do lose weight for a short period of time.

Then, they go on a binge and eat until they gain all their weight back (or more).

I hope this isn’t you. But, if you have struggled to lose 110 pounds, 40, or maybe 20, then understand you are not alone.

Women Who Struggle for Fitness – Pay Attention & Learn the Weight Loss Mindset

Weight issues have become a nationwide concern. What with..

  • fast food restaurants everywhere
  • the convenience of drive-thru windows
  • and busy schedules,

Who has time for eating right?

That’s why, for many women, losing weight proves much easier than keeping it off permanently.

And, success in weight loss diets (for lack of a better word) means just that – maintaining your weight.

You already know that keeping a healthy diet affects your live positively. But truthfully, most women still have no clue how much they mean for health and well-being.

Some reasons women have trouble with a healthy lifestyle are:

  • They consume too many calories
  • along with too much sugar,
  • salt
  • cholesterol
  • saturated fat
  • and alcohol.

Although they realize they’ve developed poor eating habits, it’s the taste of this unhealthy food that keeps them running back to it every day.

Why Is It So Easy to Move Away from Healthy Eating Habits?

Okay, I know from experience it’s really tough to keep up healthy habits. We all succumb to temptation at times (The devil made me do it.).

But, some reasons we fail include:

  • Easy to find fast foods and sugar-filled snacks
  • Skipping meals (because we don’t have the time to sit down to a real meal), along with overeating on snacks and junk food later.
  • Not knowing how to tell if a product they buy at the market is healthy or not. Often, when you purchase a pack of low-fat cookies, they include other unhealthy ingredients to make up for the low fat content. In fact, many manufacturers bake these cookies with more sugar. This way, the snack reaches the same number of calories as the ones containing fat! So, what’s the point?
  • They don’t really understand what it means to eat healthy.

Can Comfort Foods Help You Lose Weight? The Mindset of Weight Loss Says..

Wait! Hold on! Read the rest before you speed off to the local fast food joint! I’m talking moderation.

The good news is, just because you want to eat healthier doesn’t mean you should go cold turkey on comfort foods.

In fact, a good diet works when you find a good balance between healthy and unhealthy foods. This is why a weight loss mindset is so important. It teaches psychological tricks to lose weight, (although I don’t care for the word “trick”).

If you eat both in moderation, your body and mind are satisfied.

This makes commercial and fad diets almost useless. So, instead, focus on changing your lifestyle. Make some real habit changes to last you a lifetime.

A good starting point is to identify the root of your struggle with food. For example, do you have issues with overeating & munching on snacks too much?

Or, do you consume too much sugar? Maybe you just have the habit of mindless eating.

No matter what your weight gain cause, you can turn it around with a little training.

Obesity – That Ugly, Ugly Word!

At the time of this post, obesity rates in the USA have risen to epidemic levels. The Centers For Disease Control (CDC) reports more than 1/3 of American citizens are obese.

This equals almost 35% of the population. To put it in number terms, that’s 78.6 million adults!

And, obesity rates in children more than doubled over the past 30 years. In 2012, more than 1/3 of adolescents & children were obese, or over the normal weight standards.

Not surprisingly, research shows that processed food, increased stress, and unhealthy lifestyle choices played a key role in these mass overweight numbers.

Crash & Burn (Fad Diets)

Nowadays, many women and men struggle with obtaining healthy, permanent weight loss goals. And yes, crash and fad diets that promise fast weight loss play a big role in these failed attempts to lose pounds.

So, if your ultimate goal is to live healthier, lose weight, and keep it off then a short-term fix is not for you.

Instead, replace those diets with weight management. And unfortunately, you’ll never  accomplish a lifestyle change in three days’ time.

Do You Feel You’re Losing the Fitness Struggle?

Again, you are not alone. Thousands of women (or more), just like you struggle with fitness and health for various reasons.

Some of the reasons come from listening to the “lose weight fast” crowd of marketers who flood the Internet and your email box.

Am I saying that all diets and exercise programs are bad? Not at all. With a little research, you’ll find many good programs to offer what I’m about to teach here.

Weight Loss Mindset of The Temporary Dieters

Many times, people fail with typical “diet solutions” fail because they remark about temporary conditions.

They say things like; “I am going on my diet,” or “I just got off a diet.

On the other hand, permanent weight loss works just the opposite. This change of habit is not a temporary state.

And so, you cannot achieve real fitness goals with temporary solutions.

You Don’t Need to Exercise – WHAT?

Some of these diet ads say you don’t need to exercise to lose weight.

I’d love to believe that, wouldn’t you?

Truth is, exercise is an important part of reaching and maintaining your final weight goals.

The Department of Health and Human Services states:

You should aim for at least 30 minutes a day, every day, to stay active and healthy.

So yes, you do need exercise – even if you’re not “on a diet.

You Don’t Need to Starve Either!

After the end of many crash diets, you become starved for food.

Why? It’s because your body is out of sync. And now, your stomach screams at you for nutrition.

A little day of cheating can’t hurt, right? So, you binge. This cycle becomes a habitual process. Soon, you find it’s near impossible to escape the vicious cycle – eat & starve.

Ever Heard of a Balanced Diet?

Of course you have. But, you may find yourself ignoring some food altogether as your crash diet instructs.

And, they say it will aid you in the process.

However, this is not the case. When all is said and done, your body needs all food groups in their own right to stay healthy.

And, these groups help manage your weight.

Understanding Health & Fitness & The Psychology of Weight Loss Mindsets

Many women do not understand what it means to live a healthy lifestyle. So, they put up psychological blocks to weight loss which are difficult to overcome.

But, it doesn’t have to be rocket science. This dieting mindset or lifestyle simply includes what foods to eat. And, it shows how to burn off calories.

These are only a few reasons young women (and older ones too) miss the mark when it comes to true, healthy weight loss.

It’s easy to become unmotivated and completely burned out with each new weight loss diet or program.

Sadly, these struggles can turn into a habit. And, a habit becomes a lifestyle. Soon, you find yourself stuck, living in situations damaging to your health.

Destined to Fail | More Reasons Fad Diets Don’t Work – 3 of ‘Em!

After reading so far, are you convinced yet? If not, let’s dive deeper into the reasons why most fad diets do not work.

From eating only one food group to following all of the “rules,” crash & fad diets are destined to fail.

If you are still not sure, listen to the health experts. They say the pounds you lose don’t add up in the end.

I’ve repeated this fact because I believe it’s so important for you to know!

1. The Temp Diet – “Lose 10 Pounds in 7 Days!

Crap! (Excuse my language)

You see the ads everywhere; on TV, in your email box, on your phone, etc. And, most say the same thing in a different way.

Yes, you’ll get blasted by ads for “quick” diets that promise you will lose so many pounds within so many days or months.

Some fad diets include:

  • juice fasts
  • drastic calorie restriction
  • and everything in between.

However, you must realize these diets only offer temporary weight loss solutions.

In fact, Psychology Today tells that fad diets can result in quick weight loss. But, chances are, the weight comes back after the you stop the diet.

And, many times you gain back more than what was originally lost.

“Eating as Usual”

One study found that short-term diets can yield a loss of 5%-10% of body weight – in a short amount of time

But, the problem is, once it’s over, people go back to “eating as usual.”

And, do you know what happens after you go back to your old habits?

Sure you do! The weight comes back with a vengeance! Now, the yo-yo diet effect has become your lifestyle.

2. Nature Diets

Most of these diets start with drastic measures.

Eg: the “Wine and Eggs Diet” uses wine and eggs throughout the day, except for dinner, which allows for steak.

However, for dinner, you also have a half of a bottle of wine and four eggs. There is more wine throughout the day.

Notwithstanding the fact that you get sick of eggs and wine, how much cholesterol do you get from eating 6-8 eggs per day? And, I guess you could end up becoming an alcoholic before all is said and done.

Bitter Lemonade Anyone?

Another example is the Lemonade Master Cleanse diet. This fad dieting system begins with a lemonade recipe you drink. And, you get nothing to eat, for up to two weeks!

Just like any deficiency, your body overcompensates for the loss. On these diets, you can suffer from negative reactions such as headaches or fatigue – not to mention the lack of nutrition you need from a well-balanced diet.

Most important is; No one can or should eat like this on a permanent basis.

Once again, this undermines any efforts you make to keep the weight off for good.

3. They Don’t Teach Healthy Eating Habits, Do They?

Sadly, fad or crash diets never teach us healthy eating habits.

As I stated above, these diets are just too drastic. And, most of the time, they take something away from us instead of giving.

These diets teach you not to eat “Y” at all, instead of replacing “Y” with something healthier.

I don’t want to live that lifestyle permanently. And, if I read you right, neither do you!

So, let’s first of all throw those “get lean quick” diet programs out the window. I want to travel with you on a journey to real weight loss. You know, the kind that never comes back.

First, numerous scientific studies show that eating healthy can reduce the risk of serious health problems such as:

  • heart disease
  • type 2 diabetes
  • obesity
  • stroke
  • hypertension
  • some types of cancer
  • and osteoarthritis.

So, if you’ve got the weight loss mindset and resolve to begin a healthier way of life to eat better for the first time in your life, stick with it.

Then, make gradual changes to your old unhealthy habits. And most of all..

Final Thoughts About the Weight Loss Mindset – Never Give Up On Your Desired Weight Goals!

Follow the seven words of Winston Churchill…

“Never give up! Never, ever give up!”

Even if you fail the first few times, this is not uncommon. If you lose 20 pounds and gain back 10, you are still ahead of the game. This is the weight loss mindset and you’ll find your way to better health once you adopt the habit.
