How to avoid diet foods

Were you eager to begin your new healthy food diet until you looked at your new menu?

Did you glance at the foods available and go “Blah!”

Me too! Most of us have tried those bland food diets to live a healthier lifestyle.

But, this is where most diet foods go wrong – and why diets lose their luster quickly.

Well, I want to talk today about a brand new way to look at healthy food. It all comes down to getting into that weight loss mindset instead of “going on a diet.”

And, I believe you’ll see what healthy food can look like and get inspiration to stick to a plan that works! Let’s get started..

Secrets to Eating Healthy – Who Else Wants to Eat Healthy Food and Still Enjoy Their Meals?

Just for fun, I looked up the term “healthy food” over at Wiki. And, the answer didn’t really surprise me. They explained:

“Healthy food describes food that is believed to contribute to personal or public health. In descending order of generality it may refer to:

  • a healthy diet
  • food safety or
  • a particular health food

And, the description fell under the “disambiguation” category. You can look up this word if you like. 🙂

Seriously, when you think of “healthy’ food“, what do you think of?

I thought so.

For many of us, this doesn’t exactly bring to mind a gourmet meal. Instead, you might think of healthy foods as being those typical ‘low fat’ sandwiches or potato chips that have had all the moisture sucked out of them.

In fact, your thoughts turn to bread that is about as thin (and tasty) as a piece of cardboard!

Whatever the case though, healthy food doesn’t actually have to be this way.

In fact, healthy food should be all the stuff that you really want to eat!

After all, this food is meant to be really good for you. So, it should also be satisfying and taste good, shouldn’t it?

Where Did Diet Food Go Wrong? Vindication of a Healthy Food Diet

My one-time barber said to me many years ago about dieting:

If it tastes good, spit it out.

Vulgar, I know. But, doesn’t that seem to be the case? In reality, good healthy food doesn’t have to taste bad to work. Let’s move on..

Unfortunately, diet food is completely unhelpful for the most part. This is food that has had the fat removed from it.

Why? This myth began based on the incorrect belief that fat causes heart problems.

We now know that fat is actually good for us and even slows down the absorption of sugar as well!

What’s more, eating some fat makes us feel fuller!

Listen closely, while fat contains more calories, this simply means we need to eat less of it.

And, we should eat less of everything else as well.

But, if you’re not sure, this is…

What Healthy Food Really Looks Like

The first clue that healthy food should taste good, and even indulgent comes from the Mediterranean Diet.

Jean’s Eating Healthy Diet Plan follows some suggestions from the Mediterranean Diet but goes much deeper.

You can check out her website here.

The healthy eating system includes an entire continent of people who are in fantastic health, despite eating a diet that would technically be considered unhealthy by many ‘experts’.

People on the Mediterranean Diet seem to live longer on average. And, according to some studies, enjoy better heart health.

Think about it. The improved health is in part due to the saturated fat content and things like resveratrol found in red wine.

NOTE: I do not promote wine because of obvious increased risks of alcoholism in susceptible people.

The Exposed “Secret” to the Mediterranean Diet Craze

So, what’s the “secret” behind the Mediterranean diet?

Built for life, this diet includes a ton of different fruits and vegetables.

It’s really easy to understand. These healthy vegetables, arranged beautifully on the plate, display a ton of vivid colors. Basically, these colors are:

  • Red,
  • Green,
  • & Yellow

For instance, Greek salad contains…

  • tomatoes,
  • feta,
  • cucumber
  • and pepper

And, it comes packed with goodness!

Meanwhile, sprinkling oil on top of the salad actually ensures that all those nutrients are absorbed better.

The Healthiest Greek Salad Recipe

Just so you can get an idea for preparing a delicious Greek salad, I looked up a recipe for you. It comes from skinnynyms.com and I believe you’ll enjoy it…

  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 large cucumber
  • 1/2 cup kalamata olives
  • 4 large tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 4 cups romaine lettuce or other green lettuce of choice
  • 4 ounces feta cheese, diced or crumbled
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  1. In a small bowl, to make the dressing, mix the extra virgin olive oil, vinegar, salt and pepper. You can adjust the amount according to taste.
  2. In a salad serving bowl, mix the lettuce, cucumber, olives, tomatoes, onions, feta, lemon zest and dried oregano. Mix with the dressing when ready to serve

When you eat like this, you actually enjoy your food. Remarkably, you feel full and satiated.

With satisfaction guaranteed, you don’t get those cravings, or feel the need to snack.

And, you can enjoy eating again – the way you should!

And most importantly, it’s not just the Mediterranean Diet that offers these benefits of course.

Let me explain. I’m not promoting this or any other “popular” diet system. I just want you to be aware that this one does have healthy eating options, without giving up taste.

The take home message here is very simple: Eat a varied diet – and make sure you enjoy it!

And, as Forrest Gump would say; “That’s all I’ve got to say about that.”
