Even if you’re dieting, you most likely will visit the local fast food restaurant from time to time. Even though most diet programs tell you not to do it, it’s inevitable.

But, that doesn’t have to be such a bad thing – if you use some common sense.

When you are trying to stick to a healthy diet, ordering from a drive-thru can be frustrating and confusing and is often something people try to avoid.

Sometimes, though, life happens and you are left with either going with the convenience of a quick meal from a drive-thru or skipping a meal.

To most people, a meal from a drive-thru means consuming a meal that is higher in calories than most of us consume in a day.

And, this happens quite often with the fast paced lifestyle of everyone today! If this is you, and this lifestyle is haunting you with belly fat issues, read on..

However, there are some tips for choosing healthier options when you find yourself in one of those situations where your only choice is to grab a quick meal.

1. Why Choose Grilled Over Fried?

Keep away from fried or breaded, including nuggets, fried chicken and fried fish sandwiches.

A good deal of fast food places provide grilled options for almost all of their meat sandwiches.

This reason for this is because grilled foods are generally a healthier choice — there’s no batter coating or dripping grease.

2. How About a Fresh Approach –  Choose A Salad

Today, nearly all fast food drive thru’s now offer salads.

And, the grilled chicken breast salad appears to be a favorite of many customers, including myself.

Considering the dressing’s calories and going easy on the creamy varieties, a salad will make a perfect fast food diet option for you.

And, don’t forget to skip the croutons and any other high fat additions like bacon

3. Stick With the Single – Burger That Is!

Don’t choose the quadruple, triple, or double patty when you order your burger. Choose a better burger for you – A SINGLE.

The more meat you add, the higher the calorie content. So stick to a single patty burger for your healthy fast food.

4. Skip The Bun – What No Bread?

A great way to save over 150 or more calories is to get your burger or chicken sandwich lettuce wrapped.

Yes, who would have ever thought lettuce would replace the hamburger bun?

This concept made popular by low carb diets such as Atkins, is now widely offered in most fast food restaurants.

5. Don’t Eat Fries – And Why Not?

What, eating a burger just isn’t the same without french fries!

But, think of the fat and calories you are consuming when eating fries that are deep fried in oil.

Not to mention the sodium content found in an order of french fries.

Some healthier options for side dishes with your burger are salads with light dressings, baked potatoes with light toppings, a fresh fruit cup, or apple slices.

6. Do You Really Need All Those Condiments?

Save a few calories by skipping the mayonnaise, thousand island dressing, and other fatty condiments.

Ask for mustard instead.

For a more distinctive taste, add  lettuce, tomato, pickles, and other fresh toppings.

Super size is a calorie death trap.

Choose the smallest sizes when you are ordering your sandwiches, burgers, and sides.

Don’t choose a drink filled with calories and unwanted sugars.

And, keep away from drinks that are being advertised as coffee drinks but have just as many calories and fat in them as milkshakes.

A bottle of water is the best choice for something to drink when you are going through a drive through.

You may think that a muffin makes the perfect on-the-go breakfast or snack  because it’s made with whole grains.

Muffins can be made healthy to keep you feeling full all morning long, but this isn’t always the case.

Often, muffins at coffee shops and fast food restaurants are simply glorified cakes that are high in calories and fat.

So, keep this in mind when you get the urge to stop by the drive thru to pick up something that will satisfy your taste buds & keep you feeling full all morning long.

10. Don’t Procrastinate – Plan Ahead With Fast Food Diet Options

Since hitting the drive thru often for your meal is your only option, then knowing the fast food diet options ahead of time can make it less difficult than trying to make up one’s mind at the last minute.

Remember, these fast food diet options can apply to every family member.

And, when you have children in the car when stopping by the drive thru, giving them their very list of healthier, or even fat burning food options to choose from will get them excited.
